EDITING GRANT PROPOSALS

My clients say I treat their applications as if they were my own. I put at their disposal my familiarity with NIH, other federal agencies, and foundation funders to help them craft the best possible application. I consider both the "forest" (how the overall idea fits with the funder's goals) and the "trees" (how a proposal can best express the investigators' ideas). In this challenging funding environment, every detail matters and a poorly written proposal will not be competitive. My clients consider me part of their team, and I give their work the polish that helps them get funded.

MANUSCRIPT EDITING

I began my career at the New England Journal of Medicine, and then worked at two other major medical journals. I have coauthored peer-reviewed papers in journals such as JAMA, and have over 30 years of experience as a board-certified author's editor. This broad experience gives me a unique advantage in editing manuscripts for timely acceptance in high-impact journals. Publishing is essential for getting research grants, and funded research needs to be disseminated to have impact. Clarus can help with both of these essential metrics of scientific success.

CONSULTING and WORKSHOPS

I work with clients to map strategies for success. Whether it's deciding which funders to approach for research support, which types of funding programs to apply to, or which journals to target for manuscript submissions, my experience is at my clients' disposal so they can achieve their goals.

I teach workshops on proposal and manuscript writing from a strategic perspective. I help applicants use "grantsmanship", think like reviewers of applications and manuscripts, and incorporate fresh perspectives in their writing.
